Cowboy Action Shooting
Cowboy action shooting is one of (or probably THE) fastest growing shooting sport in the world. The basic
idea is to dress the part and shoot cowboy guns. This means boots and hat (minimal) and pre-1900 (original
or reproduction) guns. Guns required to compete are 2 single action pistols, lever action rifle (some pumps),
and a shotgun (double brl , 87 lever, or Win.'97 pump). Normally, all guns are shot on every stage and shot on a timer.
The goal is to hit all the steel targets as fast as possible (misses are 5 seconds added to total). Each shooter
also chooses an "alias", their "cowboy name" if you will. Mine of course, is Hugh Damwright which is my 4th
from when I started. I started this sport a few years ago with the Gunpowder Creek Regulators of Lenoir, NC.
Since then I have shot with
the Walnut Grove Rangers, Iredell Regulators, Old North State Posse, and have
participated in one state match so far. This sport not only allows me to
have fun dressing up, shoot guns,
but also to meet and make the best friends in the world !!
